Interpretation limits

Register-based associations remain susceptible to residual confounding, care-use differences and measurement limitations. The study found associations with retinopathy and albuminuria but not higher stroke, cardiovascular disease or mortality risk in the diabetes groups. It does not test whether treating periodontitis prevents these complications.

Publication status check

No retraction or correction notice found in the checked sources. Publisher-supplied full-text XML (article title/type and related notices), Europe PMC core publication types, and publisher-deposited Crossref update-to/updated-by/relation metadata checked on 2026-10-22.
