A PRACTICE-BASED FOUNDER EDUCATION

Learn by building
the institution.

Twelve common studios. One evidence portfolio. A school you can inspect, improve and prepare to launch.

01

01 · Purpose

A school worth building

Listen to families, learners and educators before writing a prospectus. Record the needs you heard, whose voices are missing, and the decisions those accounts change. Turn each promise into an observable learner outcome.

What you will produce
  • Community needs brief
  • Graduate learner profile
  • Mission and measurable outcomes
02

01 · Purpose

Design the learning work

Start with a consequential question and design the work students will undertake. Identify the choices learners control, the evidence they preserve, and when teachers intervene. Design a non-headset route to the same learning outcomes.

What you will produce
  • Learning model blueprint
  • Weekly learner timetable
  • Accessibility and device alternatives
03

01 · Purpose

Authority and accountability

Map academic, safeguarding, financial and operational decisions. Separate ownership from independent oversight. Record external approvals and attach primary evidence; another school’s approval is not transferable.

What you will produce
  • Legal entity and jurisdiction plan
  • Governance and conflicts policy
  • Approval register
04

02 · Learning

Build a coherent curriculum

Choose courses from the versioned library. Define prerequisites, graduation requirements and evidence of mastery. Shared curriculum reduces duplication; school-specific credit, UC approval and teaching judgments remain with the responsible school.

What you will produce
  • Course adoption and sequencing map
  • Assessment and credit policy
  • School-specific course approval evidence
05

02 · Learning

Learning that contributes knowledge

Frame a researchable question, examine existing work, define a method and preserve traceable evidence. Route suitable work to Advanced Authentic Research for human editorial review. Publication and ORCID updates require separate authorization and review.

What you will produce
  • Research and consent policy
  • Capstone rubric
  • AAR submission pathway
06

02 · Learning

Build the teaching community

Estimate teaching and support capacity from the actual learner timetable. Protect time for educators to inspect student work and revise instruction. Document qualifications, supervision, workload and continuity of care.

What you will produce
  • Staffing and qualifications plan
  • Teacher collaboration timetable
  • Professional learning plan
07

03 · Institution

A safe and inclusive school

Walk through a learner’s day and identify safety, privacy and access failures. Assign escalation owners and response times. Keep sensitive student records outside founder portfolios. Test accessibility with representative devices and support needs.

What you will produce
  • Safeguarding and escalation protocol
  • Accessibility and accommodation plan
  • Student privacy and consent plan
08

03 · Institution

A thoughtful admissions journey

Explain eligibility, required information, decisions and appeals in language families understand. Collect only necessary data. Public charter pupil tuition and application fees are zero; founder programme billing is separate.

What you will produce
  • Admissions criteria and communications
  • Enrollment and family handbook
  • Financial aid or fee-free policy
09

03 · Institution

A sustainable operating model

Cost staffing, support, devices and facilities before forecasting revenue. Stress-test lower enrollment and payment delays. Separate financial authority, bank accounts and shared-service agreements.

What you will produce
  • Three-year operating budget
  • Cash-flow and reserve plan
  • Payment, refund and approval controls
10

04 · Launch

Make the everyday dependable

Trace enrollment, attendance, assessment, records and family support end to end. Each integration needs an owner, data contract and failure procedure. Existing VR School services stay with their established runtime until a tested migration is approved.

What you will produce
  • Systems and data-flow map
  • Incident and continuity plan
  • Vendor and LMS integration register
11

04 · Launch

Make the school legible

Develop a clear visual identity and plain-language navigation. Review the generated school preview against the actual offer. Custom domains require verified hosting and DNS; a requested domain is not an activated domain.

What you will produce
  • Brand and domain plan
  • Family-facing school preview
  • Communications and feedback plan
12

04 · Launch

Defend the launch case

Rehearse a family applying, a teacher supporting a learner and an operator resolving an incident. Review the portfolio with responsible humans. Programme graduation and legal authorization to open a school are separate decisions.

What you will produce
  • Launch rehearsal report
  • Named approval and readiness sign-off
  • 90-day improvement plan
