The founding question

What should endure
when wealth changes hands?

A family office is an arrangement of capital, relationships and authority. This journal connects financial evidence with the governance, learning and accountability that make long-term stewardship possible. The first volume brings original source scholarship into conversation with operational solutions: decision records, diligence questions, succession processes and measurable learning.

Each pairing keeps a clear boundary between what the original authors established and what the editorial companion proposes. Source publication dates, authors, journals, existing DOIs and exact Creative Commons rights remain visible.

From AI Enthusiasm to Accountable Practice: A 90-Day Family Office Pilot

This companion translates the forum analysis into a proposed 90-day family-office pilot. It evaluates one bounded, reversible AI-assisted workflow while recording verification effort, errors, costs and the eventual use of any time saved. The protocol preserves human decision authority and adds a family-purpose review so that operating gains are not assumed to create wellbeing or better stewardship automatically. The schedule and measures are editorial design choices, not validated standards. No trial has been conducted and no performance improvement is promised.

The Co-Investment Decision Record: A Practical Protocol for Liquidity, Selection and Family Accountability

This proposed operating protocol helps a family office assess co-investments without confusing access with investment skill or a favorable mark with available cash. It produces six linked records: mandate, opportunity history, economic exposure, liquidity scenarios, independent challenge and monitoring decisions. A transparent hypothetical example demonstrates how commitments can exceed stressed cash capacity despite a large reported portfolio. The protocol includes a prospective evaluation plan with failure conditions. It has not been trialed and does not prescribe a portfolio allocation, a reserve percentage or an expected return. Its purpose is to make assumptions, obligations and decision authority inspectable before money is committed.

Financing the Next Verifiable Milestone: A Deep-Tech Diligence and Learning Protocol

This companion converts five evidence obligations into a practical protocol for family offices considering scientific ventures or university-originated technology. It specifies a claim register, independent review, rights assessment, customer tests, security-level scenarios and milestone decisions. A hypothetical robotics example shows how to define a test that could change an investment decision without presenting an invented result. The proposed process treats the quality of evidence and the cost of obtaining it as governance questions. It has not been validated and does not provide individualized investment or legal advice. Its intended output is a reviewable decision packet, including reasons to defer or decline.

Legacy Is a Capacity, Not a Holding Period: Real Estate Stewardship for Family Offices

Family Office Private Wealth Journal · Editorial research desk

Family Office Private Wealth Journal · 2026-10-22 · CC BY 4.0

A long investment horizon is an intention; the ability to remain an owner through adverse conditions is an organizational accomplishment. This article develops an editorial framework for real-estate stewardship from an attendee-supplied discussion at the 2026 Family Office & Private Wealth Management Forum WEST and selected research on property liquidity, debt structure, climate exposure, adaptive reuse, family governance and human–AI judgment. Its central proposition is that legacy depends on continuity capacity: the ability to meet obligations, maintain useful assets, sustain legitimate relationships and transfer decision authority while circumstances change. These capacities can conflict. A decision that preserves cash can defer necessary repairs; diversification can introduce unfamiliar governance; faster analysis can amplify an investor’s prior beliefs. The article proposes a quarterly review organized around observable dependencies and failure conditions. It is a conceptual editorial synthesis, not a new empirical study, systematic review or investment recommendation. A separate companion translates the framework into responsibilities, evidence records and an evaluation plan.

The Quarterly Continuity Review: A Family Office Operating Protocol

This practical companion proposes a recurring review of the obligations, assets, relationships and decision rights that allow a real-estate-owning family office to operate through change. It produces five evidence records and a small action register rather than a composite legacy score. The protocol combines a cash and maturity calendar, property-use assessment, tenant-service review, succession exercise and AI evidence audit. Its quarterly cadence is an editorial design choice, not an empirically validated optimum. No family-office trial or investment-performance improvement is claimed. The objective of a pilot is to test whether consequential dependencies become visible early enough for accountable people to address them.

From Shared Vision to Earned Authority: A Daughter-Inclusive Succession Workshop

A family office should be able to explain how a potential successor becomes eligible for meaningful authority.
